An Introduction to Assessing Planned Greenhouse Gas Impact

The content in this publication has since been updated in Project Frame’s methodology guidance, Pre-Investment Considerations: Diving Deeper Into Assessing Future Greenhouse Gas Impact, published April 2023.

Published May 2022

This brief explores how investors assess planned impact, which we define as the impact an individual company realistically plans to make according to its business activities. We’ll be addressing other forms of impact assessment, like potential impact, in future content and may revise this paper to reflect where the 2 processes diverge.

This document offers a high-level methodological framework that investors can follow quickly. The framework is a foundation upon which Frame plans to discuss more complex concepts, like impact, baselines, and attribution. Frame assessment materials are subject to regular edits. We revisit content as needed to respond to emerging ideas. See the “last edited” date on publications for recency and visit our evolving glossary for terms referenced in this report.
